Donna & Alan

The New Forest micro wedding for Alan and his American beauty Donna, took place at St. Johns Church Boldre, with an extra sprinkle of Christmas magic. With covid restrictions and many family members and friends living overseas, Donna & Alan planned a two part wedding. An intimate ceremony in front of both sets of parents and a sister from each side in November 2020, followed by a full party extravaganza later in 2021 to celebrate with the rest of their loved ones. However, like so many couples, a secondary national lockdown in November meant they had to postpone and their ceremony day was re-scheduled to a month later. A blessing in disguise, this meant that this intimate love affair of a day got its very own winter luxe, laid-back vibe, adorned with foliage wreaths and glistening Christmas trees.

A Winter Luxe Wedding – Lace & Lockdown

It was all in the details and bride Donna radiated elegance in her long-sleeved lace Willowby by Watters gown, with a keyhole back detail. Donna coupled the gown with a lightly tousled half-up half down hair do and dewy make-up look, with a pop of a berry lip. Bridal prep took place from the comfort of her in-laws beautiful home which they also run as a B&B – Daisybank Cottage. Before they headed off the church, the couple shared a moment in prayer, led over the now familiar setting of zoom. It was a lovely moment as they stood either side of the door, holding hands but managing to resist a sneak look at each other before the ceremony.

St. Johns Church Boldre

An abundance of greenery set the tone for a demure décor design. A full archway of fern and foliage encased the church doorway, mirroring the undone bouquet of the bride, by Corbins Florist and the deep ivy green of the grooms tie. It wasn’t quite a white Christmas, but confetti danced on raindrops as the couple were greeted with a sprinkling of rain as they exited the church. Luckily for them, rain on your wedding day is good luck! It signifies that your marriage will last, as a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – therefore, when you ‘tie the knot’ on a rainy day, your marriage is stronger and just as hard to unravel!  Spirits were not dampened and we continued with family and couple photographs before the newlyweds and their wedding party left St. Johns Church Boldre for a celebratory meal at Balmer Lawn. I am beginning to notice that with micro-weddings there is an ease which comes with the day, everyone seems more relaxed, maybe there really is less pressure, having things smaller? One thing is for certain my fingers will be crossed for Donna and Alan and all the couples looking to hit the dance floor later in 2021.
